The Hidden dimensions of the Ancient Civilizations

The ancient history buries a golden account of prehistoric civilizations that mark the evolution of the human race. While the archaeologists have bought us very close to the life that subsisted million of years ago, there are some hidden edifices unexplored but cited in the primeval literature by the eminent writers. The modern world calls them myths because they were never found and only the written stories of their existence lie as the evidence. But beneath the deep ocean beds lie the most advanced cities of their times revealing the superior knowledge of art, science and architecture of the inhabitants. So let us take a sneak peek into some of these lost civilizations and the hidden cities of the primordial times which have always been the favorite amongst the archaeologists.

Lost city of Atlantis

The Greek philosopher Plato in his writings mentioned about a legendry island that was the most technically advanced city of its times. The location of the island has often been debated. While some point to the Mediterranean Sea there are those who say the island lies west of the Strait of Gibraltar near the Azores Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Caribbean locations have also been proposed as sites of Atlantis but to dismay; all hopes have been dashed against the evidence.

Plato revealed the high technology and fine architectural skills of the Atlantians. The capital city was said to be built on a hill that was surrounded by rings of water, joined by tunnels large enough for a ship to sail through. These outer rings were connected to the ocean through a canal. The city had remarkable buildings covered with precious metals and the people were wealthy and prosperous.

According to Plato the city was a naval power lying “in front of the pillars of Hercules”. The army had conquered large parts of the Western Europe and Africa but their failed attempt to defeat the city of Athens sank the magnificent empire into the ocean “in a single day and night of misfortune”. The disputes over the story to be true still persist amongst the scholars but the lost city of Athens still remains as an embodiment of supposed advanced prehistoric lost civilizations.

El Dorado-Lost City of Gold

For centuries, archaeologists, explorers, and fortune seekers have made quests to search this lost city of gold with majority of them only loosing lives and time. The history points to the story of El Hombre Dorado - the golden man or gilded man. He was a South American Muisca tribal chief or king who was immensely wealthy and was covered in gold dust. As a part of a religious ceremony on being crowned the king, he threw gold and precious jewels into the Lake Guatavita to mollify a god that lived underwater. The practice ended around 1480 when they were subdued by another tribe.
This very story inspired several expeditions to the world of immeasurable riches. In a similar attempt, the Spaniards tried to drain out Lake Guatavita and found hundreds of pieces of gold along the lake’s edge. But the treasure still remained in the deep water beyond their reach and the hunt is still on.

The Lost Land of Lyonesse
The Saxon Chronicle talks about a fertile land that once connected the Scilly Islands with Western Cornwall. The island called Lyonesse, was inhabited by the Silures, who were known for their industriousness and devoutness. There were more than 140 churches in the region.

11th November 1099, a very high a tide destroyed the island submerging it under the sea.
The Isles of Scilly are all that remain of the island which are the old hilltops of Lyonesse. The remains of a sunken forest can be seen at low tide in Mount’s Bay. Domes, towers, spires, and fortifications and such remains of stone buildings have often been reported to be seen while some even say they’ve heard the church bells ring when the sea has been stormy. The lost land is an amalgam of facts and myths and that makes it a fascinating mystery of the history.

The Lost Lands of Mu and Lemuria

Lemuria was an ancient civilization that existed during the time of Atlantis. The lost land is believed to be located somewhere in either the southern Pacific or Indian Oceans. Also referred to as Mu, or the Motherland (of Mu), it was the home of an advanced and highly spiritual culture.

The name Lemuria was coined by 19th century English zoologist P.L. Sclater after his investigations of the Maya ruins. According to him a volcanic activity had destroyed the island and the survivors of the cataclysm had later formed the Mayan civilization. Easter Island, Tahiti, Hawaii and Samoa are said to be amongst a few scattered islands that survived the waves. James Churchward later popularized the existence of Mu stating that he had found an Indian high priest with stone tablets that had inscriptions written in Naacal, the native tongue of Mu.

Also In 1985 off the southern coast of Yonaguni Island , a Japanese dive tour operator discovered a rectangular stone ziggurat, part of a complex of underwater stone structures in the area that resembled ramps, steps and terraces. These remains were by large regarded as the remnants of the oldest civilization.

Teotihuacan
The archeological remains of the one of the most ancient cities of America narrate a tale of an amazing urban development by an unknown human race. It was the largest metroplex in the America that covered around 14-16 square miles and supported a population between 100,000 to 250,000. Destroyed around A.D. 750,the site was excavated by the Aztecs who named the city as Teotihaucan — “the place where the gods are created.” The pyramid of the Sun which spreads over 12 square miles, dominates the site.

The other architectural ruins showcase the contribution of engineering geniuses of the ancient times.

Rainbow at Elam Blend - Missouri

On this day a rare February Rainbow was seen here in Northern Missouri at sunset. This rainbow was visible over much of the area and was noticed by many people. It was seen as a partial bow in some areas and completely full and even double in others depending on where the rain was falling. The photos on this page were taken at the Elam Bend Conservation Area near McFall , Missouri .

As I pulled the truck up next to one of my favorite trees I looked over my left shoulder and there sat the most vivid rainbow that I had ever seen.  It  appeared to me to be about a 100 yards away or maybe even closer.  I was unable to get a great shot at first.  I couldn't get out of the truck with the camera because it was still raining fairly hard.  I didn't want to get water on my lenses.  notice that the sky inside of a rainbow is much brighter than the area outside
This is a close-up of the photo above.  It shows the apparent close proximity of the right flank of the rainbow.  That tree line is about 1500 feet away from me as measured on an aerial photo. I have never seen a rainbow this close before other than one created by artificial sources of water such as a garden hose or sprinkler.
A fisheye lens view of the rainbow including the old tree near the road. The hill behind me put part of my surroundings in shadow. This was my first ever shot of a complete rainbow. No other camera or lens that I have ever owned was capable of taking such a shot where both flanks of the rainbow were seen all the way down to the ground. As an added attraction this was a double rainbow.

This is a photo of the left flank of the rainbow. The rain had moved beyond the tree line at this point. These tall trees are on the southern bank of the Grand River as it runs to the east near Elam Bend.

I moved closer to the tree with the fisheye lens for this composition. The secondary rainbow is still there but is disappearing fairly quickly.

This is a summertime view of the same tree at Elam Bend shot in  2005.  The name "Elam Bend" is a place name that describes the bend in the Grand River that occurs here.  The river has changed its course in this area including a major shift as a result of the flooding in 1993.   This area is also listed in the book Geologic Wonders and Curiosities of Missouri as a "shut-in" where  the river valley narrows considerably with bluffs very near the river

Are you a big Lamborghini fan?

Most of us agrees that Lamborghini is a great looking car and I am sure that many wealty people who love cars wouldn´t hesitate to have one in their collection. Cars like Lamborghini Diablo, the Gallardo and the Murcielago are like candy to my eyes. Here is a list of 5 facts you should know about Lamborghini…

Fact 1
Did you know that the fastest Lamborghini, with a reported top speed of 370 km/h, is the Le Mans version of the Murcielago R-GT model. The fastest street model from Lamborghini, with a reported top speed of 340 km/h, is the Murcielago LP640. Both of the models have a V12 engine with more than 6000 cc.

Fact 2
Did you know that Lamborghini used to be an independent company, but went bankrupt in 1978 and was sold to Chrysler. In 1998, the German company, Audi AG, became the owner of Lamborghini.

Fact 3
Did you know that most of the Lamborghini models are produced with a V12 engine, even though the newest model, Gallardo, have a V10 engine oil. No Lamborghini have ever been produced with less than a V8 engine.

Fact 4
Did you know that the first Lamborghini was produced in 1963 and called for the 350GTV. With a top speed of 280 km/h, the 350GTV was extremely fast back in 1963. The first Lamborghini to go faster than 300 km/h came out in 1974 and was called for the Countach.

Fact 5
Did you know that the Countach, the Diablo and the Murcielago all have scissor doors (that rotate up and forward on a hinge near the front of the door), but the Gallardo does not. Both the Diablo and the Countach are no longer being produced, so the only Lamborghini car with scissor doors today is the Murcielago.

A TRUE STORY...please take enough time to read till the end

A few years ago, I visited a retired army officer at his home in Wellington(Nilgiris). There was a photograph of a pair of hands in his drawing room. Thinking that they may be the hands of some swamiji, I never asked him anything about the photograph.

Later, while riding with him in his car, I found a similar photograph in his car too. This time, my curiosity got the better of me and I asked him whose hands they were.

He asked me to take the snap in my hands and closely examine it. When I looked closely, I could make out that the hands were that of an old lady. They were wrinkled with long fingers and neatly manicured nails. The nerves were prominent. The thought that the hands belonged to some learned or holy person, kept revolving round my head.

The officer sighed deeply and told me in a choking voice that the hands were those of his mother. I was a bit surprised and asked him why he had a snap of his mother's hands.

"These were the hands that raised me. Her hands are alawys in my thoughts. More than her face, her hands make me miss her more than ever", he said. "I took this photograph a few hours before she died. These hands are no more in this world. But the man whom they brought up is sitting before you today. I have never known my mother to rest ever since I can remember".

"My father was very irresponsible. He had a drinking problem and drank away with the family wealth before dying at the age of 32. Thereafter, it was my mother who raised her three children. My mother was illiterate and took up a job as a maid-servant at a doctor's house. She spent the whole day cleaning the doctor's house, washing the vessels, sweeping and cleaning the floors, washing clothes, tending to the dogs and so on".

In the evening she worked in two other houses with similar chores. When I think of the thousands of vessels that she must have cleaned, my eyes tear up.

"When she returned at night, she would cook, feed us and put us to bed. Even then, she would work in the darkness, drawing water from the well. She would sleep in the kitchen and even while asleep, her hands would be restless. We three would fight to hold her hand while she took us to drop off at school, " he continued.

"We all of us felt a sense of closeness and trust when we held her hand. When we were ill, her hands would constantly soothe our brow. I have never seen my mother eat at leisure. She overcame all her difficulties with her hands and never relented in bringing us up.

"But she saw us watching her beating and could not bear it. She immediately got out of the doctor's house and took us home, not speaking a word all the way. There were no hands to hug her or console her in her in pain- I don't think she even took time to pray or worship God. Work, work, work ....she believed that only work would enable her children to prosper in life and she tirelessly worked on."

"In my childhood, I never understood the importance of those hands. Many times, I have thrown away food that she cooked lovingly, saying that i did not like it. She got me into school with great difficulty and yet I have remained away from school, saying I did not like studies. I have cursed her when she refused to buy me a bicycle like my friends had. Even then, she has never once lost her temper with me. Even when I realized that she was struggling to run the home, I only left that she need not work so hard."

"When I reached college going age, I have extracted money from her on many occasions, telling her lies and squandering the money away, roaming around and drinking with my friends. My elder brother and younger sister too have behaved similarly. Yet, our mother has never been angry with us or scolded any of us."

" In my final year at college, she was admitted to hospital with jaundice. It was only then that I realized the great love and dedication with which she has raised us and protected us from the wicked world. I reformed myself thereafter and studied hard.
I joined in the army and worked hard to get to get promoted. I kept my mother with me and even whenI started earning, she has never once asked me for anything. I myself felt that I should buy her a pair of gold bangles and took her to a jewellery shop."

"In her old age, she said to me with great hesistation,'Could you get me a watch? When I was young, I always wanted to go to work wearing one,but it never happened. Later. my own internal clock drove me all my life and I learnt to wake up without an alarm clock. Now I am and sometimes I oversleep till six in the merning. I have my dinner at severn p.m., not knowing it is so early.. Would you buy me a watch?' "

" I brought her a watch, just as she wished. We were moved when she eagerly wore it everyday and proudly showed off her new watch to one and all like a schoolgirl. Later, she was with me when I got married and was posted to various places like Delhi, Bangalore, etc. When at Delhi, she was admitted to hospital with sudden chest pain and I was with her throughout."

" ' Why did you not scold us when we deceived you? ' I asked her. She linked her hands with mine and said, ' You have no idea how much I have cried after those incidents. But if I had lost my temper that day, my children would have left me!' "

" I noticed those aged hands only then. I then realized how hard they have worked, how much love they have shared and how purifying they have been all these years. I felt I should take a photograph of these hands. A few days later, I brought a camera and snapped a photo.

Today my mother is no longer with me but these hands still guide me through life. These hands remind me everyday, how I have been brought up. What else can I do expect to worship these hands? " he said.

On hearing the story, I too touched and worshipped the hands of the faceless mother of an army officer. They did not seem to be the hands of a single person but represented the working hands of countless such mothers throughout the world. They have never been extended to ask for anything but only to give love comfort and support. Only we in our ignorance have rejected and ignored them and what they stand for.

In my journey through life, I have stayed with many people. I have dined on food cooked by unseen hands and got my clothes washed by them. i have never adequately thanked them for all that they have done for me, a stranger. Today, I mentally saluted all those helping hands and paid silent tribute and grateful thanks.

I have read somewhere that we have gaps between our fingers only so that we may link them with another hand. We do not realize this on many occasions. how are we to repay those hands that show us so much love ?

The decision is ours alone.

Do Vote for Narayanan Krishnan...

Vote for Narayanan Krishnan on http://heroes.cnn.com/vote.aspx. The poll continues through November 18 at 6.am ET.

If you had not heard of Narayanan Krishnan, as I had not, it is a collective failure. This is one of the most incredible stories of personal commitment.

Narayanan Krishnan, all of 29 years old now, does what he was professionally trained to do as a chef. Feed people. Only Krishnan does not do this in the swanky confines of a 5-star hotel. Everyday, he wakes up at 4 am, cooks a simple hot meal and then, along with his team, loads it in a van and travels about 200km feeding the homeless in Madurai, Tamilnadu.

Krishnan feeds, often with his hands, almost 400 destitute people every day. And for those who need it, he provides a free haircut too.

According to CNN, eight years ago, this award winning chef with a five-star hotel chain was all set to go to Switzerland for a high profile posting. On a visit to a Madurai Temple, he came across a homeless, old man eating his own human waste. That stark sight changed Krishnan's life.

Much to his dismay of his parents, CNN says, Krishnan abadndoned his career plans and decided to spend his life and his professional training in looking after those who could not care for themselves. He has provided more than 1.2 million hot meals through his non-profit organization Akshaya Trsust, and now hopes to extend this to shelter for the homeless too.

Krishnan is the only India in a list of 10 heroes that CNN has picked worldwide to honor. One of them will be chosen CNN Hero of the Year, selected by the public through an online poll. If many Indians get together to vote for this inspiring man, he can win by a long mile.

If Krishnan wins he will get $100,000 in addition to the $25,000 that he gets for being shotlisted for the Top 10. Akshaya Trust needs all the monetary support it can get to build on Krishnan's dream. Let's help him get there.

Vote for Krishnan on http://heroes.cnn.com/vote.aspx. The poll continues through November 18 at 6.am ET.
